We have been very focused on building out the new platform for our My Artisan Web customers so we can grow together successfully over the next few years. With our move to Joomla 3x we are completely rebuilding My Artisan Web into a more autonomous setup for our clients that will give them the flexibility that are asking for while still receiving tremendous support and updates.
We want things to be simple while also catering to your needs for individuality, growth and expansion (hence, artisan). As for migrations, we've just finished setting up the introduction to why and what a migration is. You can read about migrations to Joomla 3x here: Migration Facts. We've also setup a new billing system that will be more conducive to clients needs. In the next couple of weeks, you will receive an email detailing the new name and the transfer of sites off of the old platform. Once that is completed (end of March), we'll be accepting signups for migrations which we'll begin in April.
Specific Questions Answered:
- You can pick any 3x compatible template. We suggest something "responsive" so it looks good on tablets and phones. We have negotiated a contract with JoomlArt and Joomlashack to provide a template with the cost of the migration. So if you want that included with the cost of a migration then you'll want to choose a template from those providers.
- We have spent a number of hours vetting plugins for the new platform as we recognize the old ones are a bit limiting. We'll provide a site to you that is configured with all sorts of goodies. With the new platform, we'll continue to update Joomla for you and core Joomla approved extensions. Additional plugins that we provide which are not "core" Joomla extension directory add-ons will be supported via and email prompt on our behalf. We'll send an email letting you know a new update is available. This email will link to a downloads page where you can get the new version and it will also have instructions on how to go about updating it. In addition, you will also be able to add what you would like to your website. Please note, any conflicts or problems that arise from /self chosen and installed/ plugins/extensions will not be supported as part of your monthly plan. There will be an hourly fee for that support.
- You will be critical in assisting with the migration from 1.5 - 2.5 to Joomla 3x. You can either do it completely on your own without a fee. Or as part of the paid migration, we'll be scheduling a 1-2 hour Skype meeting to discuss any issues or bugs between the new and old. You'll have a production environment as part of the migration to ensure you are happy with everything before going live.
The fee for migrating sites ranges from $750 - $1250. If you have software add-ons, then that is a separate quote based on the site. The migration from 1.5 - 2.5 to Joomla 3x is taking about 8-10 hours of staff time from start to finish. The base rate of $750 to do the migration will include the installation and formatting of a new professional template that is Joomla 3 compliant and responsive. You will receive a development site where the transition will occur for a period of 1 month at no additional charge, most likely this will be a subdomain of your current site. During this one month period you will have the opportunity to ensure that everything is the way you'd like it to be, debug and issues, and you'll receive one-on-one support via Skype voice call to work out these issues (1-2 hours provided at no charge). Once your site is migrated and ready for launch, we will point your DNS to the newly prepared website and delete the old 1.5 website. We are currently scheduling two migrations per week to begin September 2015. Please let us know when a good time for you is to perform this work.
My Artisan Web hopes this brings you the peace of mind you're looking for as we move forward.
